6-1/2 Ways That I Used Social Media To Promote My Book by Chris Lee @lifepathllc From Frustration to Fulfillment #FF2F‬ #michlit #blogtour #mwn

5-1/2 Ways That I Used Social Media To Promote My Book

I used to spend time scouring the Internet to find ways to fully utilize, or in some cases, just to understand social media.  I was frustrated at every turn. Much of what I found was either too simplistic or unproven theory about what should work.  When I did find an expert that I was confident could help me, he charged an arm and a leg.

That’s when I decided to roll up my sleeves and start learning the “how-to’s” of social media.  After about 6 months of studying and copying other’s I figured out a few tricks of the trade.

5-1/2 Ways that I used Social Media to promote my book:

1) One-to-One contact.  I use Facebook chat to connect with Facebook friends that I’ve never met. I keep it simple and brief. I tell them about the book, ask about their business or interests and if there’s anything I can do to help them.

2) It’s Your Birthday! On your birthday, traffic on your Facebook wall is at least quadruple what it normally is.  I took full advantage by asking for (and getting) several pre-orders for my book on my birthday.

3) Tweeting Excerpts. A couple of times a day, I hop on Twitter and tweet excerpts from the book with the hashtag #FF2F (short for: From Frustration 2 Fulfillment). I always end the excerpt session by tweeting the link to pre-order the book.

5) Be Engaging.  I started getting the most out of social media when I began having dialog with my Twitter followers and Facebook friends/fans.  If you see a picture you like, share it.  If you read a great tweet, retweet it. Allow your followers and fans to see the real you, social media is a great place to show the world how funny or witty you are. Just be sure to keep it positive and professional.

6) Praise, Acknowledgement, Recognition.  Once a year I post (publicly) praise, acknowledgements and recognition.  You can do this anytime.  If someone put on a great event, provided you with great service or great conversation over a cup of coffee – tell the world about it.  If you express sincere gratitude, people will often do the same to you.

½) Look Beyond Facebook and Twitter. I view Facebook and Twitter as a side dish with the main course being my personal mailing list.  I have never met the majority of my nearly 1,000 Twitter followers. I’ve met about 1/3 of my 700 Facebook friends.  Compare that with my personal mailing list of about 200 people, most of whom I’ve met personally at some sort of event, workshop or tradeshow.  When I ask my mailing list to do something I can always count on them the most. 80% of my pre-order for “From Frustration to Fulfillment” came from my email list.

There are many other ways to reach readers and fans through social media, these are the ones that worked best for me and I trust that they help you to reach more people.

“I was riveted by Chris’s story, he had me reading as fast as I could to see what was going to happen next. Anyone who feels they have something more to give will benefit by hearing Chris’s story. If we choose not to hear our inner guidance when it’s a whisper, it may take a whack upon the head to get our attention!”
