It's Time to Upgrade

Those of us who live in Michigan are exceptionally blessed because we're able to enjoy four seasons that reflect the plurality of God's majesty!  The varied seasons serve as a reminder that change is inevitable and whether we choose to embrace it or protest it - it's coming. (SNOW and all!!)

With each new season the temperature changes, the sky either gets cloudier or brighter; flowers, trees and foliage either bloom, hibernate or wither away.  Animals change body temperature, color, shed or grow thicker fur to accommodate the season.

When seasons change nature gets a makeover and from time to time, we [human beings] should update ourselves as well.  "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" doesn't cut it for Christian authors.  If it's old, stale, overworked, faded, ill-fitting, boring, etcera, etcera...it actually is broken and does actually need to be fixed.  This is not limited to sprucing up the outward appearance but also it also means discarding negative thoughts, distructive speech and counterproductive deeds.

Like the plant and animal world, human beings also need to update or as Dr. Stacia Pierce puts it, Upgrade ourselves.  Particularly those of us who are in a position to attract the lost to salvation and to encourage the body of Christ to continue fight the good fight.

Your most effective calling card is a polished image that epitomizes the glory of our Savior.  By nature we're attracted to others first by the image they project, THEN most evaluate character and skill levels.

The adage that says "you can't judge a book by its cover" really isn't true. As an author, your book might be the greatest story ever told, but if your total package isn't solid, potential readers might never bother to so much as skim the back cover.

Guest Blog:
Are You Willing to Learn, Unlearn and Relearn?
By: Christina Dixon, ACW/Detroit Vice President

Several years ago I read a quote that made a huge impact on the way I approach learning opportunities. The quote was by futurist Alvin Toffler. In the early 1970s this business consultant spoke to corporate America with insight that has proven to be extremely accurate. He said,

"The illiterate of the 21st Century will not be those who can read or write. It will be those who cannot learn, unlearn and relearn."

For  writers, this statement has many implications. There are so many things that have changed in the publishing industry since that time. In the early 70s those who self-published their books were not taken seriously.

Today, technology has opened the flood gates so that thousands of books are self-published every month. Authors are no longer at the mercy of traditional publishers who take months just to respond to your submissions, if they are accepting submissions at all. These days, when writers have messages that they are passionate about, they can choose from a myriad of options. Too often though, writers approach publishing with a glamorized perspective that clearly indicates the need to learn how the industry truly works.

Consequently some become discouraged and end up leaving their writing projects unfinished. Yet, as Alvin Toffler indicated, if there is an inability or lack of desire to learn, unlearn and relearn, many will be left behind in their efforts to reach the masses with the messages they've been given. What about you?

Are you willing to take the time to learn about the publishing industry and the things you need to do to make your publishing experience fruitful? Don't be discouraged. Go ahead. Dig in and educate yourself. Go to the library. Join a writers group (like ACW-Detroit). Absorb all the information you can so that your expectations are realistic.
Then act on that information!

I know it's a lot to learn. But, it's worth it!

your words show you as the savvy, credible person in this particular niche.
So, get ready and gather up 5-10 related blog posts to start your free
eBook. Just add new information from expanded posts and tips to make your
fee eBook brand new and useful to your readers.

You can mention your free ebook and include its URL when you post tips in
discussions at Linkedin. I belong to 38 groups who are mostly in my

9 Ways to Turn your Blog Articles into a Quality eBook

1. Know your eBook's goals.

What message do you want to share? How many pages do you need for this
eBook? 10-20 pp. for a free eBook or 25-50 pages for a fee eBook.  What is
a good title for it to encompass several related blog article?  Remember to
start with a working title so you keep you information focused. Each part
must support your book's title and thesis. If you wander or if you just
copy and paste the posts in the book, it just won't work.

FREE Reports Are a Great Marketing Tool for Authors

Looking for a great way generate interest in you and your books while developing a revenue stream. Try your hand at low-cost reports.

We've all heard stories of people making boatloads of money online by selling information products. Yet for most people making their first $100 would make them very happy. You see, once you make your first $100 the next $100 is much easier.

And, once someone has expressed an interest in one of your information products they are more likely to buy your books. That is if the reports contain high quality information.

A report can be one of many information products you, as an author, offer to your market. Information products include books, CDs, MP3s, white papers, reports, teleseminars, webinars, Podcasts, etc. In the Internet context, the term refers to electronically deliverable, knowledge-based products.

Anything that contains knowledge and you can deliver it electronically is considered an information product.

One of the easiest (and quickest to create) information products around is a report. And yet, many people have no idea where to start, how to market and how to turn their information into profits. Let's start at the beginning.

If you can write a book, write articles and do blog posts, you can write a report.

There are ample benefits to creating low-priced reports. Nowadays, many consumers would rather pay a few dollars for a fast solution to their problem than have to search around for the information (even if it's free).

It doesn't matter what topic, market or industry, reports are a great way to provide solutions to readers and generate great revenue with very little work.

Reports are also a great way to build your opt-in subscriber list. Most people have heard, "The gold is in the list." This is so true. With a good opt-in list of subscribers you can literally make money at the press of a button.

Reports are so easy to create that you can often do so with little or no money out-of-pocket. Sure, there is time involved, but when you consider that you can generate hundreds (and even thousands) of dollars in revenue from a 10 - 20 page plus report, the time invested is worth it.

Because your reports will be delivered electronically, there are no storage costs. With physical products you have to keep inventory on hand, find a place to store them and often watch them collect dust. This won't happen with online reports.

After the initial costs of developing your report, there are literally no additional costs to continue selling them.

With the right systems in place you can generate excellent revenues fast, easy and with what seems like the press of a button. And, with the opt in list you build you have built-in buyers for your other books.
