Savvy Book Marketing Tips | Hello Sylvia, I've got lots of book marketing news to share this week, so lets get right to it. Big Changes Coming to Facebook Facebook is constantly evolving and this month they are rolling out the latest design changes. All personal Profiles will be converted to the new "timeline" design on March 21 and the new Fan Page design goes into effect on March 30. You can upload a "cover" image for the top of your Profile and Page. It can be a photo or a graphic that you create. It's best to make your cover image 851 pixels wide; the height can vary. If you make the image smaller, it will be automatically enlarged to 851 pixels in width and it may look a bit fuzzy or get cropped on the edges. For my Fan Page, I am going to use my website header with a few modifications. For my personal Profile, I had a graphic artist create an image that reflects both my personal and professional interests. You can see it at http://www.facebook.com/DanaLynnSmith. Notice how Facebook has automatically inserted my profile photo into the lower left corner of the image that I uploaded. You can learn about timeline here and about pages here. Develop a Book Marketing Plan That Sells Books In networking with lots of authors over the past few years, I've noticed that some seem overwhelmed by the prospect of promoting their books, while others aren't sure where to start or which promotional activities are worth their time. That's why I'm so excited about my newest author training program, starting March 29. The Ultimate Book Marketing Plan Workshop is a hands-on program where you will develop your own marketing plan -- customized for YOUR book and YOUR target audiences. Get more details here and get started creating your marketing roadmap. Also, I want to say a special thank you to these four authors who are serving as "beta testers," giving me feedback on the book marketing plan workshop materials in advance: * Barbara Techel, children's and nonfiction author * Andreas Dudas, nonfiction author * Caro Ayre, novelist * Diana Todd-Banks, nonfiction author I'm committed to providing the highest quality training and to creating materials that serve the needs of fiction, nonfiction and children's book authors, and I appreciate the input from these authors. Win an Ebook Conversion Jonathan Scott at Middleton Book Conversion let me know that he's doing a drawing for one lucky author to win a complimentary ebook conversion worth $250. You can enter on this page through March 22: http://www.middletonbookconversion.com/freeoffer.html Best Times to Post Online In a recent study, Shareaholic found that Mondays and Thursdays are the best days to post content online. Monday blog posts get the most traffic, while Thursday posts get the most sharing on social networks. Sharing is highest between 8:00 and 9:00 a.m. Eastern time, and peaks again around 9:00 pm Eastern. It makes sense that people check their social networks in the morning and in the evening. See this article on ReadWriteWeb for more details. I Get Mail Here are a couple of recent emails from newsletter subscribers that I just had to share (with permission from the authors). Thanks so much to Terry and Julie! "This is a note to tell you how much I enjoy reading your newsletter. I recently sat in on Joanna Penn's webinar on promoting novels and found it extremely useful. This week I followed up on your note in the 15 February issue about Jon Renaud opening his new bookstore in Manitou Springs, Colorado. My novel is set in southern Colorado. I called Jon: he's not only going to take 10 copies (on consignment), he jumped at the chance to put one of my posters on his wall, as well as display other promotional lit for my book. Thanks for this, and for your good work." -- Terry Marshall, author of Soda Springs: Love, Sex, and Civil Rights "I know I've told you this before but I feel obliged to reiterate how helpful are your posts and advice, and to say once again that you are one of the few true, knowledgeable book marketing experts online or probably anywhere else! I look forward to your emails and blog posts and pass them along to my author marketing group regularly. Thanks for all the sound advice and sage wisdom you deliver to authors." -- Juli Schatz, Author! Author! Book & Author Marketing Network That's all the news for now.
