Three Questions To Ask About Your Website As you ramp up your marketing strategy for the summer, it may be time to consider the effectiveness of your current website. I suggest three questions to start with:
Does your website accurately communicate your mission, services, or products? Don't just go to your site statistics to figure out how effective your site is! Those statistics tell you how many people visited and which pages they viewed -- but it doesn't tell you if they left your website with an accurate understanding of what you offer and what sets you apart. Be certain that your website communicates accurately about your business!
Does your website effectively engage visitors? When customers or clients visit your website, are they able to follow the call to action? For example, do you offer a great deal -- but make them call or email to take advantage of it? Take away the roadblocks to interaction to your customers. That may mean adding a contact form, adding an extra payment option, or even shrinking your site to remove pages that confuse. Other options include live chat help, a guestbook, or a donation page.
Is your website being effectively marketed offline? I often get questions about search engine optimization (SEO). Although we do include SEO with our website packages, I often tell people that the best SEO is old-fashioned marketing. Make sure your website is on all the literature you pass out and that your primary email address is at your business domain. Promote your site in interviews and direct mail pieces. Make your site part of the call to action in advertisements. Most importantly, use the site to communicate with your current clients; they are your most important source of renewed business and new contacts.
